Think tiny homes, stargazing and nature-immersed stays.

This trend is supported by recent Airbnb data, which revealed that nearly 80% of travellers find short trips less stressful and more enjoyable than longer breaks, and almost half of working Australians say a two-to-three-hour drive is all it takes to truly switch off and recharge1

Some of the key trends shaping this year’s list include:

  • Tiny homes trending: Some of Australia’s most wishlisted properties on Airbnb are tiny homes, as travellers seek minimalist and unique escapes to unwind in.
  • Escape to nature: Rural and off-grid properties are in high demand among top-saved listings. Frequent terms like ‘rainforest’ and ‘seclusion’ signals a consumer shift toward restorative, nature-immersed travel.
  • Sleeping under the stars: Transparent dome and bubble accommodation is a rising wishlist trend, as travellers seek the ultimate stargazing experience.
  • The outdoor bath effect: Aesthetically pleasing outdoor baths and hot tubs feature prominently across top listings — no longer just an amenity, they’ve become a key feature that travellers are seeking.

“Weekending signals a shift in what Australians are looking for from travel. It’s less about planning big, overseas holidays and more about building regular moments of escape from everyday life. The destinations and homes that are featuring on people’s Wishlists reflect a desire for digital detox and local travel. As people look for ways to disconnect and reset, the homes featured in the Most Wishlisted Airbnbs for 2026 point to a desire for nature-led stays, from tiny homes to off-grid retreats, that offer various options for those looking for a chance to reset.”
