This winter, Airbnb is proud to be joining forces with CAMRA to unveil a new initiative that rekindles the essence of pubs as the original bed and breakfasts – welcoming visitors to the  heart of local communities. Three pubs in England and Wales will receive a £10,000 makeover and support from the Airbnb Community Team to help turn a spare room into a cosy, income-boosting space for the pubs to welcome guests from all around the country.

To celebrate, Airbnb has curated a selection of Guest Favourite pub stays, offering charming and unique stays in the heart of communities.

From a Traditional Country Pub in Pakenham and A 14th Century Inn in the heart of Exmoor to The flat above the pub in Winchcombe there are plenty of quintessential warming pubs that are already taking advantage of listing their space for guests to enjoy.

Amanda Cupples, General Manager for the UK and Northern Europe at Airbnb, said “Britain’s charm is deeply rooted in its iconic pubs, which serve as a cornerstone of our culture and hospitality. Airbnb is proud to highlight a selection of unique pub stays this winter, encouraging travelers to experience the warmth and community spirit of ‘the local’ while opening up applications for more pubs to access hosting support and a guest room makeover.”

Airbnb x CAMRA spare room makeover project: how it works

  1. To be eligible, applicants must: have an Airbnb account and be aged 18 or over, be a UK resident, own or represent a licensed and operating pub in England or Wales with a spare room suitable for overnight stays (including a dedicated sleeping space with a private door and access to a private or shared bathroom) that does not require any form of planning permission to redecorate, is not in a listed building, and is not otherwise deemed ineligible under the Official Rules.
  2. Pubs do not need to be pre-existing Airbnb hosts but must have an Airbnb account.
  3. Our expert judging panel will select the five successful pubs after considering:
    1. Creativity and originality of the pubs story
    2. The contribution of the pub and/or its owners to the local community.
    3. Whether the pub will be a great host on Airbnb
    4. Other considerations: independence, sustainability, choice (including provision of cask).
  4. We will work with 3 winning pubs to refurbish their existing spare room(s) into a cosy new stay, with the Airbnb Community Team helping the winners to prepare to welcome guests in their refreshed space and open up a new income stream.
  5. Applications close at 11.59pm GMT 31 December 2024. Winners will be announced in early 2025.
