With excitement building for this summer’s Oasis reunion tour, new data from Airbnb reveals thousands of fans are looking to stay in neighbourhoods just outside of concert venue cities to see the legendary band play.

In areas surrounding the city of Manchester, Oasis fever saw searches for Airbnb listings in Bury, Rochdale and Stockport skyrocket by over 7500% on average on the weekend tickets went on sale1. This surge in visitor interest suggests local cafes, bars, restaurants and shops will be able to benefit from increased footfall and spending. Neighbouring city, Liverpool also experienced an over 1500% average increase in guest searches as fans looked at travelling between the cities for more choice on the concert nights2. Airbnb guests are estimated to have brought £2.8 million into local Liverpool communities during the weekend of the European Song Contest in 20233, with the city standing to benefit again from increased spending during Oasis’ Manchester tour nights.

It’s not just small businesses that can expect to cash in on the tour nights, as local families prepare to open up their homes and host in the communities near to concert venues. Two in five hosts report that major events are what motivates them to share their home on Airbnb, with the typical host earning around £6,200 last year4, and two thirds of hosts saying the extra income helps them to stay in their homes5.

While areas around Manchester prepare to welcome fans of the hometown heroes, UK host cities including Cardiff and Edinburgh have ‘halos’ of their own:

  • On the weekend the tour tickets went on sale, Caerphilly and Penarth experienced surges in searches of 1800% and 1700% respectively, however, it’s Newport that experienced the biggest boost in interest near Cardiff, with over 2000% more searches for listings in the area than in the previous year6
  • While Edinburgh will welcome the band to Murrayfield stadium, searches in neighbouring city Glasgow more than tripled on the concert nights7

Airbnb has released tips for Oasis fans looking to find some last minute accommodation for the tour, as well as advice for local families hoping to make a bit of extra spending money by opening up their homes.

TOP TIPS FOR GUESTS:

  • Make sure to book, pay and communicate on trusted websites to guarantee your money is protected.
  • For more affordable options, consider searching for accommodation in surrounding areas that are still well connected to concert venues via transport.
  • Read reviews and use the ‘search review’ function on Airbnb if seeking specific amenities to ensure you have everything you need for your stay.
  • Guests can also message a host prior to booking to get answers to specific questions.
  • On Airbnb, filtering by ‘Guest Favourites’ will show listings most loved by other guests, while Superhosts are known for going above and beyond to provide excellent hospitality.

TOP TIPS FOR HOSTS:

  • For those wanting to host on Airbnb for the first time, Airbnb Setup makes it easier than ever to welcome an experienced guest who has at least three stays and a good track record on Airbnb.
  • To find out more about potential guests, use the Airbnb secure messaging tool to ask any questions before accepting a reservation.
  • Hosts can be assured that parties are banned on Airbnb, and the platform uses reservation screening technology to help prevent high risk bookings from being made.
  • AirCover for hosts includes $3M damage protection in the rare event a host’s belongings are damaged by a guest during a stay.

Luke Impett, Airbnb UK Partnerships Lead commented: “This summer’s iconic reunion tour will be unforgettable, and it’s so special that Airbnb travel will play a part in so many people’s concert experience. Airbnb hosts provide scalable accommodation that enables areas without traditional infrastructure like hotels to meet increased demand from big events, amplifying the positive economic impact of tourism into surrounding towns. Today, we’re sharing updated advice ahead of the tour – reminding travellers to use trusted platforms like Airbnb to book, pay and communicate about their stay – to help ensure a brilliant experience for both our hosts, and the passionate fans that fuel the UK’s event tourism economy.”

Sam, an Airbnb private room host in Stockport, said: “I’ll be welcoming guests from Italy for the concerts this summer and I can’t wait to be a part of their experience, living vicariously through them as they attend the ultimate reunion! Lots of accommodation in Manchester looked pretty expensive for the dates, so I’m pleased to be able to share my own home in Stockport as a more affordable way for fans to experience the concerts and support the local area – which they may not have otherwise visited.”
