With performances that take you on a musical journey across the African diaspora, The.WAV aims to enlighten its audiences by bridging the gap between African Americans and Africans. After meeting as friends playing music and experiencing success with small concert events in New York City, the self-proclaimed pioneers of Afrobeats and Afrotrap knew they had to expand their sound to Los Angeles in 2015.
Our music brings African rhythms and melodies to light and addresses the diverse voices in the diaspora that inspire us. We want people to feel empowered by our music, both spiritually and consciously. Some of our messages feel cryptic but can be interpreted to be relevant to a number of subjects.
Kelly Be, singer, songwriter for The.WAV
The group quickly began curating a collective of different voices in LA, with a mission to connect and empower audiences through music, art and community. Their colorful tracks like ‘Gymnastics on Fire’, ‘Proposition’, and ‘Love Games’ relay messages around the human purpose and place in the universe through a blend of pop and hip-hop beats that always gets their concert-goers up on their feet. Their trademark high energy performances work to freely express emotions to reach your mind and spirit even when the words and lyrics are a mystery.
“Our music brings African rhythms and melodies to light and addresses the diverse voices in the diaspora that inspire us,” says Kelly. “We want people to feel empowered by our music, both spiritually and consciously.”
Sharing these themes through the universal language of music, The.WAV is now captivating audiences in intimate venues with their unique Afrohaus Brunch available through Airbnb Concerts, which is currently the most booked Airbnb Concert in LA*. Their next brunch is coming up this Sunday in LA, and they are expanding their offerings to an Afrohaus Jam Session in collaboration with THE POCKET LA on May 25.
“Our concert Experience works because it allows guests to enter into community whether they are visiting from another country or locals looking for something new to do,” Kelly tells us.
We left the group with one last thought provoking question – with the Royal Wedding fast-approaching, and the couple speculatively heading to Africa for their honeymoon, which song of theirs would they select as the couple’s first dance if they were to perform on the highly anticipated day?
“We would definitely have to play our record “4 Seasons”, Kelly says. “It has a crazy rhythm that makes it easy to dance to, plus the lyrics talk about how we have to get off the grid and explore the uncharted beauty the world has hidden away.”
Listen to other songs from The.WAV fit for a royal reception here.
