The connection between Lele Pons and Airbnb.org’s work with refugees

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Lele Pons is passionate about the work of Airbnb.org, which has connected nearly 200,000 refugees to free, temporary stays since its founding as an independent nonprofit in December 2020. More than 30,000 of these refugees and asylum seekers are from Venezuela, Syria, and other countries facing ongoing political and socio-economic upheaval. And with over 7 million refugees and migrants leaving Venezuela, Airbnb.org continues to provide critical support for Venezuelans and other refugees around the world who have been forced from their home.

My parents and I fled Venezuela when I was five years old, which is why I am deeply inspired by Airbnb.org’s work with refugees and people who are looking for a better life. When you’re fleeing unimaginable circumstances, having a welcoming place to stay, even for a short time, is so important. I am very excited to collaborate with alice + olivia and working with Stacey Bendet to design the capsule collection.

Airbnb.org stepped up to support short-term housing relief efforts during recent humanitarian crises, such as the war in Ukraine and the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. Together with other nonprofits, Hosts, and donors, Airbnb.org continues to provide emergency stays for thousands of people, including over 135,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine and over 34,000 from Afghanistan. The partnership with alice + olivia and Lele will help amplify Airbnb.org’s critical work and raise funds so the organization can offer free stays to even more people impacted by large-scale crises.

About the collection

alice + olivia is known for its iconic designs and commitment to empowering women. The three-piece collection created in collaboration with Lele Pons features the Barron cropped wide sleeve zip up hoodie, Willa placket top with piping, and Allen crew neck sleeveless tank, available in three colorways: Lele Love, Faith, and Cosmic Light.

The idea to collaborate with Airbnb.org came after hearing Brian Chesky speak at the Allen & Company conference and hearing about Airbnb.org’s impactful work with people facing humanitarian crises. We decided to partner with a focus on helping women in need globally. This first collaboration with the amazing Lele Pons is launching on World Humanitarian Day to help provide housing for refugees worldwide, including women and children in Venezuela. We are proud of this collection and hope to continue it for years to come.
