Danish Architecture Center partners with Airbnb on opening exhibition ‘Welcome Home’
Last weekend the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) celebrated the opening of Copenhagen’s iconic new BLOX building with an exhibition exploring Danish homes throughout history. The Welcome Home exhibition, organised by the Danish Architecture Center and supported by Airbnb, will run until September. It aims to be a starting point for a conversation about the development of future housing, creating fruitful communities and urban development.
Welcome Home also examines how current challenges, such as demographics and evolving family structures are inspiring more flexible homes. The exhibition presents an array of artistic and technological proposals for reprogramming the massive residential complexes of the 1960s and transforming them into attractive homes of the future.
James McClure, Airbnb’s General Manager for Northern Europe, explains that the exhibition, which showcases hosts from the Airbnb community, is an opportunity to reflect on the sharing economy’s role in sustainable housing of the future:
“As resources and space are becoming more limited, sharing is fundamental to our lives. At a time when travel is 10 percent of the global economy and growing, Airbnb represents healthy travel that is local, authentic, diverse, inclusive and sustainable.”
The hosts on display in the exhibition explain how and why they live the way they do, and the dreams they have for their home. They explain why they choose to include home sharing in their way of life and why they enjoy hosting people from all over the world.
The exhibition will be open till September 23rd and during the summer, hosts on Airbnb will host ‘tours’ in their own homes as part of the exhibition programme.
