As our platform grows, so does the experience of our Hosts and the number of Superhosts who every day go above and beyond in their hosting duties to offer an outstanding hospitality experience to their guests.

Today, we celebrate a new milestone: 1 million Superhosts around the globe, providing exceptional hospitality across more than 200 different countries and territories representing more than 45 languages.

The Superhost program was created in 2014 to celebrate and reward the top-rated and most experienced Airbnb Hosts. Regardless of what kind of space they list on the platform – from a simple spare room to a sprawling estate – any Host can become a Superhost by consistently offering exceptional hospitality. And it pays off!

With rising cost of living, people are especially interested in earning extra money through hosting. The Hosts who reach the Superhost status by offering outstanding hospitality and achieving specific quality standards can typically enjoy an even higher hosting income. From July through September 20221 the typical Superhost earned over 60 percent more than a regular Host. Their secret?

  1. Maintain a high overall rating Superhosts have a 4.8 or higher average overall rating based on reviews from Airbnb guests in the past year.
  2. Be experienced – Superhosts have hosted at least 10 stays in the past year.
  3. Avoid cancellations – Superhosts cancel less than 1 percent of the time.
  4. Be responsive – Superhosts respond to 90 percent of new, booking-related messages within 24 hours.

“Back in 2019 my husband and I agreed to trial Airbnb for 12 months in order to see if the concept was going to work for us – almost four years later and we have not looked back”, says Bree, Superhost from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

“Being an Airbnb Host helps pay the mortgage, has allowed for renovations and it helps my community. I am constantly referring work to local trades, suggesting restaurants and cafes to my guests and I am employing professional cleaners and gardeners to help me stay on top of it all.”

Commitment to excellence

From October 2021 through September 2022 Superhosts have had over 45 million check-ins globally earning collectively over $33 billion AUD in income on Airbnb. But great results come from hard work. Becoming a Superhost requires dedication, consistency and a commitment to excellence.

Airbnb now counts 1 million Superhosts who every day go the extra mile to deliver a great hospitality experience.

  • Approximately 5 percent of Superhosts are under 29; 20 percent are 30-39 ; 25 percent are 40-49 ; 25 percent are 49-59 ; 20 percent are 60+

“I’ve made many friends in the Airbnb community that I would never have had the opportunity to meet if I wasn’t a Host myself. Sharing a common interest and bond in hosting was a wonderful unexpected new friendship group,” says Superhost Angela from Christchurch in Canterbury.

“The extra income we’ve earned has certainly helped us to travel more as a family within New Zealand, complete a renovation of our family kitchen, and support our kids with extra-curricular activities.  Our Airbnb brings us joy, community, income, connection and I’m thrilled to earn my Superhost recognition every quarter both as a reflection of the quality of hosting I provide to my guests and a quality assurance to my guests knowing that they’ll be looked after by a Superhost who has had to meet certain standards for that recognition. Is it worth it – 1000 percent yes!”
