When Airbnb guests travel to Toronto, they often stay in neighbourhoods that are removed from the typical downtown hotel tourist scene. In doing so, they often shop and dine locally, pumping money into small businesses across the 44 wards. Last year alone, Airbnb guests in Toronto spent $417 million at local shops and restaurants, bringing powerful economic activity to the city.
Recently, a group of local Riverside hosts joined Airbnb Canada staff and the Riverside Business Improvement Area (BIA) for an afternoon walk in the Riverside neighbourhood. Along the way, the Riverside BIA shared information about significant historical and cultural areas. The group stopped at six different local businesses including Dark Horse Espresso , Dimensions Custom Framing and Gallery, Brika, The Peasant Table Dining, Sugar Loaf Bakery and Cafe, and Smash Ping Pong to connect with the business owners and learn more about their offerings.
