Airbnb Hosts in Europe have a long history of opening their homes to people in times of crisis through Airbnb.org. They’ve helped provide emergency housing to more than 100,000 displaced people, including refugees from Ukraine and frontline workers responding to COVID-19

All Airbnb.org stays are completely free for guests. Airbnb covers all the fees and the rest is funded by donations to Airbnb.org and the generosity of Airbnb Hosts – many of whom offer their home for free or at a discount. Now there’s a new way for Airbnb Hosts in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain to help people who’ve lost their homes in natural disasters and humanitarian crises. They can donate a percentage of their earnings to Airbnb.org on a recurring basis. They’ll get impact reports that share how Airbnb.org is spending donations and earn the Airbnb.org Supporter badge on their profile page.

Hosts around the world have contributed over $8 million USD from their Host earnings to fund emergency stays through Airbnb.org and have helped connect more than 240,000 people to free temporary housing.  Airbnb.org is working to respond to global crises big and small, and 100% of your donation supports people in times of crisis.

Hosts make Airbnb.org’s work possible, and many in Europe have been involved since the beginning. Claudia, a Host since 2015, has led initiatives to promote sustainable hosting in Lake Como, Italy. In 2022, she coordinated with a network of Hosts and local authorities to house Ukrainian refugees through Airbnb.org.

“Airbnb.org is a great way to combine earning income with supporting people in need,” she said. “It was very touching to see how Hosts in our community mobilised to support people fleeing the war in Ukraine. There is no better way to break down prejudices than to open the doors of your home.”

In Châtillon-en-Dunois, France, Airbnb.org supporter and Superhost Marielle worked with her local Host club to house healthcare workers responding to COVID-19. “I hosted three nurses and was proud to help them so they could continue to help the community. It gave real meaning to the idea of hosting,” she said.

Thanks to Hosts like Claudia and Marielle, guests have found the comforts of home in the most challenging times. Now, Airbnb.org will be able to help even more people in times of crisis.
