Sustainable design has garnered support with increasing vigour across the world of fashion and now Londoners are jumping on the trend with Experiences on Airbnb. Designers, makers, independent creative companies and photographers alike are offering visitors to the capital the chance to get crafty in a sustainable way.
Of those heading to LFW in 2018, none are quite so synonymous with sustainable design right now than Christopher Raeburn. He recently collaborated with the V&A for their new staff uniforms and now he’s inviting the public to step inside his East London studio to take part in a new Experience on Airbnb.
During the two hour experience, Christopher takes guests on a tour around his studio, a former Burberry textile factory, before they design their own t-shirts and discuss the opportunities for sustainable design in 2018.
And it isn’t just Christopher who is using Experiences on Airbnb to share insider fashion tips:
East London sewing & mending class
A veteran of the fashion industry, Jade’s workshop focuses on reinventing wardrobes in a sewing and mending class while learning about sustainability and how to reduce environmental damage by shopping better, repairing and avoiding fast fashion, but still looking great.
Get an insider’s look at a working textile mill
In 2011 Daniel restored 19th century looms and founded the London Cloth Company in a former WWII army barracks. Amongst the vintage backdrop, he brings old methods back to life; providing a range of colourful yarns to design bespoke patterns during and teaching how to weave scarves with one-on-one assistance.
Explore Mayfair style with a designer
Luciana owns a fashion-accessories brand based on sustainability, craftsmanship and fair trade. She hosts a three hour experience exploring quintessentially British brands in Mayfair, visiting stores with royal warrants and learning the history behind heritage brands that invented iconic garments.
Make your own hand blocked felt hat
In her home just outside of London, Martina hosts an introduction to hat making. Using felt to create colourful hand blocked hats with quirky designs, the class moulds, steams and blocks their creations to take home at the end of the class.
Snap street styles with a photographer
Take to the streets with photographer and art director Antonio in East London. During the two hour class, Antonio seeks out the best places to take street style fashion shots with budding creatives and discusses his photography experiences.
