Keeping It Local: Brits’ Most Wish Listed Homes on Airbnb in Lockdown

  • Unique spaces and homes in rural locations across England make up the list, as Brits look closer to home for future travel inspiration
  • 2020 list is entirely different to the most wish listed homes in 2019, with attention shifting from beachfront Brazilian villas to converted shipping containers in Exeter
  • 70% of this year’s list is made up of lodges, cabins and glamping accommodation

Today, Airbnb reveals the top ten most wish listed homes by Brits since lockdown began on 23 March; a list composed entirely of UK destinations, as Brits dream of staying local in unique, rural spaces.

While travelling beyond a day trip is still not permitted – listings that are visible on the platform will not be bookable for UK stays that take place on or before 3 July 2020 – it seems that Brits have not let this dampen their wanderlust, as they are seeking out options closer to home for once it is safe for travel to return.

The Airbnb data shows that, while the most wish listed homes in 2019 were flung far across the globe, this year Brits are anticipating holidays closer to home and are inspired by the incredible homes and places on their native shores. In 2019, Grecian cave houses and an oceanfront villas in Brazil led the top 10**. This year, the list is composed entirely of English boltholes, from a forest lodge in Stoke on Trent, to an oak cabin in Hemel Hempstead and a windmill in Kent*.
