에어비앤비, 한국 컨트리 매니저에 손희석씨 선임

에어비앤비 호스트 및 게스트와 함께 국내 사업을 키워 온 에어비앤비가 한국에서의 사업을 한 단계 더 높은 단계로 끌어 올리기 위한 첫 걸음으로 손희석씨를 한국 컨트리 매니저로 공식 선임했다고 밝혔다. 

손 매니저는 누구나 어디에서든 소속감을 느끼는 세상을 만들겠다는 미션 달성을 위한 에어비앤비 코리아팀의 여정을 이끌 예정이다. 에어비앤비는 가정집과 부티크 호텔, 트리하우스에서 중세에 지어진 성까지, 현지에서 머물 수 있는 수백만 개의 장소와, 독특하고 진정성 있는 체험을 제공하고 있다.

손 매니저는 최근까지 글로벌 차량 플랫폼 기업인 우버의 국내 사업 부문 총괄직을 맡아 한국팀을 이끌어 왔으며, 앞서 온라인 여행 플랫폼인 익스피디아에서 역시 한국법인 대표를 역임한 바 있어 여행산업을 포함한 폭넓은 경험을 토대로 에어비앤비 코리아의 사업을 더 높은 단계로 이끌어 갈 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

앞서 손 매니저는 한화그룹에서 인수합병(M&A)과 세일즈, 마케팅 업무를 담당했으며, 글로벌 컨설팅기업인 맥킨지에서 경영 컨설턴트로도 활동했다. 연세대 컴퓨터산업공학과를 졸업했으며, 노스웨스턴대학교 켈로그경영대학원에서 경영학석사(MBA) 학위를 취득했다. 

손 매니저는 “오랫동안 에어비앤비를 좋아해 온 이용자로서 ‘현지에서 살아보는’ 새로운 관광 트렌드를 확산시키고 있는 에어비앤비에 합류하게 돼 무척 기쁘다”며 “에어비앤비를 통해 관광의 혜택을 얻는 사람들이 더욱 늘어나고, 한국에서 일궈온 성과를 계속해서 이어나갈 수 있도록 노력하려 한다”고 밝혔다.

큼 홍 시우(Kum Hong Siew) 에어비앤비 아태지역 총괄 디렉터는 “한국에서 빠르게 성과를 일궈 온 조직을 이끌어 온 경험이 풍부한 손 매니저의 합류는 에어비앤비 코리아가 다음 단계로 성장하도록 하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것이라 생각한다”고 말했다.

Airbnb appoints Brandon Son as S. Korea Country Manager

Brandon joins Airbnb from Uber, where he was most recently General Manager for Korea. Brandon also brings years of experiences in the travel and tourism industry, having led Expedia’s business in Korea as Representative Director. 

Prior to this, Brandon was in charge of M&A, sales and marketing affairs at Hanwha Group, and also served as a consultant at global consulting firm McKinsey. He graduated from Yonsei University’s Computer Industry Engineering Department and earned an MBA degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
