Trifecta: Arizona Launches Three Home Sharing Clubs in Three Days
Arizona home sharers had a busy week. Between Aug 16-18, over 120 Airbnb hosts and guests came together to launch Home Sharing Clubs in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson.
All three Club launches were a hit — hosts shared ideas and best practices, provided tips and insights to new home sharers, and brainstormed ways to further spur economic growth in their communities.
“The meeting was informative, and it was fun seeing hosts I’ve met before as well as meeting new ones and hearing of their various experiences with guests from around the world,” says Daisy, one of the Airbnb hosts who attended the Phoenix club launch at the Agave Library. “A strong focus should be to keep Airbnb visible as a vibrant partner in the Phoenix business community.”
Home Sharing Clubs are designed to be a place where hosts can interact, organize and participate in local, grassroots community efforts to champion home sharing while supporting reasonable short-term rental laws that enable middle-class families to earn extra income to help make ends meet.
The launches were particularly cheery, as hosts were also celebrating the passing of SB 1350, a groundbreaking piece of legislation that allows home sharing to be a powerful economic tool for families across Arizona.
The law provides safeguards against regulations that may unfairly prohibit or target short-term rental activity, and streamlines and simplifies tax collection for hosts. SB 1350 sets clear, consistent and common sense standards so that all Arizonans may participate equally in home sharing across the state, great news for the many hosts who attended the club launches.
Hosts enjoyed the opportunity to meet their peers and identify the core home sharing issues in the Grand Canyon State.
“I love being part of shaping the future of Airbnb and home sharing,” remarks Airbnb host Katherine after the Scottsdale Home Sharing Club launch, held in the beautiful Mountain View Community Center. “As hosts we can offer a lot of insight. I think these forums might be a good place to brainstorm some improvement ideas.”
