Today, building on the launch of its Airbnb Trips offering, Airbnb announced one of the company’s largest philanthropic endeavors to date. In collaboration with Make-A-Wish®, Airbnb will donate up to $1 million in travel credits to fulfill a wish a day for Make-A-Wish families in 2017.
Since granting their first wish in 1980, the Make-A-Wish offices in 41 countries around the world have granted more than 350,000 wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses, cementing their reputation as one of the world’s leading children’s charities. Today, the majority of wishes granted around the world involve travel.
To support these travel wishes, Airbnb has been working with Make-A-Wish America and Make-A-Wish International by providing accommodations for wish kids across the globe. Now, Airbnb will be expanding the partnership to include transformational experiences for wish kids and their families, through its new Trips platform.
This collaboration has the power to significantly enhance travel and experiences for future wish kids — as you can see in this video of Claire, who was able to experience Paris through the eyes of a local fashion designer.
With the help of its host community, Airbnb is excited to be one of the largest hospitality sponsors for Make-A-Wish globally. To celebrate this new venture, Airbnb will also be matching donations to Make-A-Wish through Airbnbwish.com — up to a total of $100,000 during Airbnb Open, the company’s 3-day festival of hosting, which concludes on November 20. In addition, Airbnb hosts can also sign up to help host a Make-A-Wish family at discounted rates, which will help the company to help serve more wish kids.
The Airbnb host community has repeatedly gone above and beyond to generously welcome wish families into their homes. As the partnership expands to include the Airbnb Trips platform as well, it is clear that this is just the beginning of an amazing journey ahead.
