Airbnb exists because of our Hosts. Today, we’re thrilled to announce a major milestone for our community – we now have over 5 million Hosts on Airbnb.1 This achievement is a testament to the strength of our community and the opportunities that are created through hosting on Airbnb.
These 5 million Hosts:
Represent a global and diverse community. Nearly 85 percent of our Hosts are located outside of the U.S. After the U.S., the countries with the most number of Hosts are France , Brazil, Italy, the U.K. and Spain. Of our 5 million Hosts, over half identify as women and more than one in three are over the age of 50.2
Offer more than just a place to sleep. Our Hosts share their homes, apartments, private rooms, igloos, treehouses, houseboats, yurts, campers and much more. In fact, as of December 31, 2023, more than 2,500 hosts list castles on the platform and as of September 2023, there are more than 160,000 listings in the Vineyards category.
Benefit from a flexible way to earn extra income. Airbnb Hosts from every walk of life are able to turn their home into a supplemental source of income when it works best for them. According to a global survey of the Airbnb Hosts, more than two thirds rent out their space on Airbnb while traveling for work or vacation, and more than a quarter host during big events in their local areas.3
Have collectively earned $250 billion all-time. Since Airbnb was founded, our Hosts have earned $250 billion all-time,4 which according to the same survey, has predominantly helped to cover rising costs of living, make ends meet, and earn extra spending money.
Make the world feel a little more connected. Airbnb Hosts have had more than 1.5 billion guest check-ins collectively, welcoming guests from over 200 countries and regions.5 We’ve seen firsthand how Airbnb can foster connections between Hosts and guests, and introduce people to new cultures. According to a continuous Airbnb survey of Airbnb Hosts globally, more than half said that hosting has helped them feel more connected with others in an era marked by the rise of social media and increasing social isolation.
We are grateful to our Host community for their dedication and commitment to providing exceptional hospitality. As we acknowledge this milestone, we remain as committed as ever to listening to Hosts and improving their experience on Airbnb. We’ll continue to introduce new features and upgrades that make it even easier to Host on the Airbnb platform. We look forward to welcoming even more Hosts to our community as we embark on Airbnb’s next chapter.
