Airbnb is offering a £100 travel coupon to new Hosts welcoming their first Airbnb guest during the King’s Coronation in London this May.

The bonus scheme for new Hosts encourages locals in London to make the most of the increased demand for holiday accommodation by hosting on Airbnb, generating additional revenue for themselves and their local community.

New Hosts must opt in by heading to www.airbnb.co.uk/e/2023coronation and list their space*.

The Government’s Tourism Recovery Plan identifies special moments, such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, as major boosts for the UK travel sector, and the incentive for new Hosts will help ensure that regular families in London benefit.

Last year, Airbnb launched a similar bonus incentive for new Hosts welcoming their first Airbnb guest during the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. The scheme increased accommodation capacity for the event and benefited the local community. Airbnb data shows that Hosts in London collectively earned more than £7.1 million last year during the Jubilee celebrations, with the typical Host earning just over £500 between 2nd June 2022 – 5th June 2022 – a sixth of the average monthly salary in the UK in just 3 nights.

According to Airbnb’s recent UK Spare Room report, people in the UK are taking advantage of their spare rooms and generating additional income. A typical private room Host in London brought in approximately £3,500 last year.

When it comes to significant events this year, it doesn’t get bigger than King Charles’s coronation. As celebrations sweep across the UK and families visit loved ones over the additional bank holiday, Airbnb offers a unique opportunity for locals to benefit by opening their homes. Home sharing helps cities use existing space to scale up their capacity, welcome visitors during peak demand, and empower locals to provide sustainable and affordable accommodation, benefitting the local economy.”

For those interested in sharing their home with guests during the King’s Coronation, Airbnb has made it easier than ever to list your home with Airbnb Setup, meaning you can choose to welcome an experienced guest who has at least three stays and a good track record on Airbnb. Here are some top tips from Airbnb for anyone considering hosting this spring.

  1. Match with a Superhost and get free 1-1 guidance – Have a question about hosting and not sure where to start? With Airbnb Setup you can connect with some of the most seasoned Hosts on the platform, whether by phone, video call, or chat.
  2. Create a great Airbnb Host profile – Your profile is a great way for others to learn more about you before they book your space.
  3. Use quality photos – Guests spend more time exploring photos than any other part of a listing page.
  4. Write an accurate description of your space – Focus on the style, uniqueness, condition and atmosphere of your space.
  5. Keep the calendar up to date – Make sure that the dates on your calendar are up to date and that they reflect the actual availability of your accommodation. You can highlight your ad by setting the “Early Booking Discount”, which rewards guests who plan a trip several weeks ahead.

We’re always looking to improve the experience for Hosts, which is why we’ve expanded AirCover, with guest identity verification, reservation screening, and $3M damage protection, including coverage for cars, boats, art and valuables.
