Domestic Travel is Top Choice for Thai Guests
Travel might be restricted for now, but that isn’t stopping guests from dreaming of one-of-a-kind experiences. Thai travellers are looking local with domestic destinations within a 2-3 hour driving distance of Bangkok and proximity to the coast, dominating wishlists.
While Pattaya and Hua Hin top Thai travellers’ most wishlisted destinations, eight out of 10 of Thai’s wishlisted domestic listings were in Hua Hin.
According to Airbnb internal data, the top five destinations searched for by Thai travellers are:
- Hua Hin
- Chiang Mai

Privacy and Amenities Drive Thai Travel Decisions
With cleanliness and hygiene ever-more important, Thai travel preferences are trending towards private stays with private facilities. This family-friendly, stylish villa in Pattaya with a private pool, garden and fully equipped kitchen is the most wishlisted stay for Thai travellers while this modern pool villa nearby the beach in Hua Hin ranked second.
Amenities at stays are also driving decisions with kitchen, wireless internet and pool being the most searched for amenities by Thai travellers. Pet-friendly stays are also proving popular, being one of the top 10 amenities searched for by Thai travellers.
Looking further afield, Thai travellers are favouring Asian destinations. With destinations in Japan and South Korea topping international searches last year, both countries remain popular with Seoul and Tokyo the most and second most searched for destinations by Thai travellers accordingly.
