Supporting Domestic Violence Survivors in New Orleans

Airbnb announced today that it will partner with the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Family Justice Center on a new pilot program to provide support to residents fleeing domestic violence during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This program will help provide domestic violence survivors in New Orleans with access to no-cost accommodations.

With reliable shelter for domestic violence survivors remaining a need in New Orleans, Airbnb will be providing funding for the program and the Family Justice Center will be connecting survivors directly with places to stay.

“We are mindful of the fact that Phase Two of our safe reopening of the City includes the title, ‘Safer at Home.’ We need to continue to protect all of our residents including those who need a safe space, and part of that means providing support for survivors of domestic violence,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “We appreciate Airbnb and the Family Justice Center for working together with us to launch this vital program.”

“The FJC is so grateful to the City and Airbnb for their support of survivors who need safe and confidential housing during this pandemic. Having this additional resource will be life saving for many survivors – thank you so very much,” said Mary Claire Landry, Executive Director, New Orleans Family Justice Center.

“We hope through this program, those experiencing violence will quickly be connected to needed places to stay,” said Tom Martinelli, Regional Policy Director at Airbnb. “We’re proud to be working with Mayor Cantrell and the Family Justice Center to provide this support.”
