Our Work to Fight Discrimination

At Airbnb, our purpose is to help create a world where anyone can belong anywhere – no matter who they are or where they are from. That’s why everyone who uses Airbnb must agree to our Community Commitment.

Our Community Committment is a global standard requiring all members of our community to affirmatively agree to “to treat everyone in the Airbnb community – regardless of their race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age – with respect, and without judgment or bias.” This Commitment applies to everyone who uses Airbnb around the world.

To date, we have removed more than 1.4 million people from our platform who have not agreed to the Community Commitment.

Some Hosts in China have included language in their listing description that discriminated against members of different minority groups. This is an unacceptable violation of our Community Commitment and we take action to address it. If we identify listings that violate our Community Commitment, our policy is to remove these listings from Airbnb unless the Host removes the offending content. We use technology to help identify and remove content that violates our policies and we are constantly working to review and improve our policies and procedures.

As we move forward, we will continue to help Hosts share their space and welcome guests where we’re permitted to do so. Airbnb is a community based on connection and belonging and we will continue to listen to all perspectives and work to bring people together.
