Colleen Pace, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Visit Greater Palm Springs

Tourism is the number one industry in Greater Palm Springs – it generates $7.5 billion in economic impact, helps support one in five jobs, and generates $687 million in state and local taxes. The partnership is part of Airbnb’s work with destination marketing organizations and local governments to support local economic recovery. To date, Airbnb has launched more than 140 partnerships across nearly three dozen countries to bolster the economic benefits of travel for residents and small businesses.

Airbnb is proud to help keep more of the returns of tourism in the communities and neighborhoods where it takes place. Hosts keep the vast majority of what they charge for their listing and more than half of what guests spend during their US trips – 54 percent in 2020* – occurs in neighborhoods where they stay, supporting local shops and other small businesses. This economic activity has helped communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to be an important source of income and revenue.

“Everyday, Hosts on Airbnb help guests discover the unique attractions and experiences that make the Greater Palm Springs region a one-of-a-kind destination. Airbnb is proud to partner with Visit Greater Palm Springs to help more people discover what makes this region great and help bolster the region’s tourism industry which supports thousands of residents, small businesses and the local economy,” said Toral Patel, Airbnb public policy manager.

By targeting potential travelers in Southern California, the campaign also taps into changing travel trends spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, including consumer preferences for destinations often either in nearby or remote locations, from long-distance to road trips, and from urban to more rural destinations. In addition, remote work has given travelers more flexibility for family travel and longer weekend stays that blend work and leisure. The partnership will ensure Greater Palm Springs remains a top destination for guests looking to get away as the new year begins.

Promoting safe and responsible travel

In addition to highlighting local stays and attractions, the campaign will promote Visit Greater Palm Springs’ “Safer Together, Greater Together” pledge which encourages travelers to uphold the latest safety guidelines. More than 500 local businesses have taken the pledge to keep Greater Palm Springs safer.

Certain public health requirements may still be in place and Visit Greater Palm Springs reminds prospective travelers to review these guidelines ahead of their visit by learning more here.
