In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re releasing a new report looking at how women continue to excel on Airbnb.

Their contributions to our community are about so much more than quantity. Here are some of the ways in which Hosts who self-identify as women in Canada and around the world made their mark on Airbnb last year:

  • More earnings: Women earned more than $16 billion on the platform in 2022, nearly 10% more than male Hosts1. In Canada, the typical female Host making over $12,400 CAD in 2022.
  • Host community: Women make up more than half (57%) of the Airbnb Hosts in Canada2.
  • Five-star ratings: Globally, women Hosts received a higher share of 5-star reviews (91%) than their male counterparts (88%).

To mark the day, we’re spotlighting women Hosts from around the world who are among the most highly rated Hosts  – including in Canada. To find these stellar Hosts, we identified women who had the highest share of five-star ratings in their nation. Incredibly, since so many women have 100 percent five-star ratings, the tiebreaker went to whomever had the greatest number of reviews.

In Canada, we’re announcing that our top female Host is Lucia C, based in Toronto. Lucia shares two private rooms in her home.

“I began hosting on Airbnb because I enjoy meeting new people from different countries and making friends as well. I have done a lot of travelling and hosted many family events so hosting has always come naturally to me. Being a native of the Philippines, it is very much part of our culture when it comes to hospitality.

Hosting on Airbnb has been a great source of income for me and my family. So, my advice to other women who are considering hosting on Airbnb is to truly love and enjoy the journey. Remember that all people are different and have different expectations, you have to remain flexible to accommodate them.”

Lucia C, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

At Airbnb, we’ve made it easier than ever before for women to become Hosts. Last year, during our 2022 Winter Release, we launched Airbnb Setup, which provides new Hosts with the options to match for free with a Superhost for one-to-one guidance, host an experienced guest as their first guest, and receive one-tap access to a specially trained team of Community Support agents.
